Our first living with nature camp was successfully organized between 08th Oct 2016 to 10th Oct 2016 at a remote village near Valparai. Nearly 24 students from Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College participated in the program. The camp focused on natural living and observation of the culture, tradition and lifestyle of Kadar tribes located in that area. The whole program was an extremely new, different and loving experience for the students to understand the life of tribes by staying along with them and sharing their resources.
The most fascinating thing is to know their beliefs and the way they treat nature. The tribes have a tradition of speaking with elephants relating to their beliefs. Kadar tribes communicate with elephants when they enter into their settlements and request them to leave their village avoiding any conflict between them. The amazing thing is that elephants move without hurting or disturbing the peace during such occasions. These people are peace loving. They have more values towards nature and humanity.
